Ch: 11 Audiovisual Technologies

A traditional Audio media is an audiocassette.  The book suggests this could be used in the class for small group instruction.  This would be great if the I wanted the students to work together instead of just listening to a lecture.  Also, if they had any questions I would be able to assist each group one at a time.  The book gives the example of an internet audio such as a MP3 as an emerging audio media.  This could help the students in the same way.  Splitting the class into small groups and allowing them to listen to the audio and perform in a group may help them to learn better.  This aids students that are both hands on learners and lecture learners.  Traditional visual media would be like the example of print materials.  This could be used in every day classrooms for note taking or just to simply display an example of something.  However, these papers and notes could easily get lost or destroyed.  An emerging visual media would be a computer.  This would help out a lot in a class room in various ways.  The internet on the computers could be used for games that aid in learning that would keep a students attention.  Another example in the book includes internet meetings.  This allows me the contact with any other classroom anywhere in the world.  This could in turn make for a great learning experience.

Chapter 6: Digital Technologies in the Classroom

I would prefer to teach in a class with more technology.  I am going to be a High School Math teacher.  In high school math calculators are necessary for graphing and aiding in tough calculations.  The book states, "the possibilities for expanding their capabilities by the addition of digital peripherals are enormous."  I believe this is very true.  Teachers are preparing students to go out into the real world.  Without the ability to use technology in our world today students will have a disadvantage when trying to find a job later on in life.  From a more hands on experience with the electronic whiteboards to aiding students with speakers and headphones, electronics have the ability to enhance a students learning opportunity.  As a teacher, I want to do everything in my ability to help the students in their future career, and in using digital technologies I feel this is very possible.

NFL Commercials

My favorite commercial during the Superbowl game was the first Doritos commercial "Finger Licking Good."  I thought this commercial was the funniest and I didn't expect this to happen.  I also love Doritos.  I started cracking up laughing when the guy asked if he was finished and then started sucking on his fingers and freaked out about the taste of the cheese.  Then he ripped the guys pants off when he wiped his fingers off on them.  There weren't many good commercials this year, but this one definitely stood out to me.
